SAN MARCOS, Texas - Daniel Upton has been in the tattoo industry for a little over 25 years, little did he know that stopping in San Marcos on the way to Austin would lead to a new unique business on the San Marcos square.
Daniel had spent over 6 months looking for the perfect location to open a shop in San Marcos, "I had been looking at locations around San Marcos and I couldn't find anything that grabbed me, so when we got back from vacation, my wife said, “check the MLS again,” and as of January 1st this one popped up and I called them immediately, without even looking at it, I told them we'll take it," said Upton.
One and Only tattoo co. is hard to miss with their new exterior look, even with it being a historical building, Upton said it was a fairly painless process to proceed with the shop. "You don't have to get permission to paint the outside of the building, so that was easy, they didn’t love that I painted the building black, but everyone else in town has.”
As soon as you step inside the shop, you'll notice it's not your average tattoo shop. That was Upton's grand plan, "There's nothing in here that says this is a tattoo shop, except the name. Just focusing on One and Only being more of a fine art studio and gallery makes it a lot different." The location of the shop also provides a backyard patio where he plans to host different events throughout the year, so that the shop is a place that anyone would want to hang out at.
As for the business plan for the shop, there will be up to five tattoo artists, including Upton, as well as a piercing artist. He also has art on display and for sale from Tiffany Love and Flip Solomon. You won't want to miss the local jewelry from Laura Everett either. All of the artists provide unique pieces that you are sure to fall in love with.
The grand opening will be in May, until then you can still book consultation appointments with Daniel Upton now, as the shop is now open Tuesday through Saturday. If you're on The Square, be sure to stop in and check out the shop, you won't be disappointed.
